Emerald

Emerald is the most renowned member of the beryl family, earning the title "King of Green Gemstones" due to its vivid green color. From Egyptian pharaohs to Incan emperors, emeralds have always captivated royalty. The Egyptian queen Cleopatra adored emeralds and made them part of her royal jewelry. One of the oldest known sources of emeralds is the Cleopatra Mines, located near the Red Sea. The legendary Crown of the Andes, made of gold and emeralds, stands about 34 cm tall and weighs 2.17 kg. It is adorned with 450 emeralds, including a 45-carat square emerald obtained from the last Inca emperor, Atahualpa. This 16th-century Spanish artifact has been housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States since December 2015.
