Amber and Beeswax Amber

What Is Amber?

Amber is fossilized tree resin — sunlight, forest and time captured over tens of millions of years, sometimes with ancient insects or plants preserved inside. Warm to the touch, light in the hand and electrically charged when rubbed (the Greeks named electricity elektron after it), amber is one of humanity's oldest treasured materials, found in Stone Age tombs. It is also one of Buddhism's Seven Treasures, long carried as a protective amulet.

Amber vs Beeswax Amber (蜜蠟)

Both are fossil resin; the difference is transparency. Amber (琥珀) is transparent golden-to-cognac; beeswax amber (蜜蠟) is opaque with a milky, waxy lustre like honey — the cloudier and more buttery, the finer. Our collection includes both, from honeyed beeswax beads to cognac and rare blue amber.

What Is Amber Good For?

Amber is traditionally associated with warmth, comfort and steady calm — a "stone" that feels alive in the hand. Practitioners use it to lift heavy moods and clear mental fog, describing its energy as sunny and reassuring rather than intense. It's a beloved soothing companion: many wear it to feel grounded yet light, and keep it close during demanding periods as a tangible reminder of resilience — after all, it has already survived millions of years. Its Buddhist heritage also makes it a favoured protective amulet.

How to Use Amber

  • Wear it daily — Bracelets, pendants and earrings; amber's warmth suits everyday wear and its glow deepens with your skin's natural oils.
  • For comfort — Hold a piece during tense moments; many find its warmth and lightness inherently soothing.
  • As an amulet — Carry it as the traditional protective treasure it has been for millennia.
  • Collect the rare — Blue amber and insect inclusions are the connoisseur's prize.

Care & Cleansing

  • Handle gently — amber (2–2.5 Mohs) is soft organic resin: avoid knocks, scratches and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Keep away from perfume, alcohol, harsh chemicals and prolonged strong heat or sunlight — all can cloud or crack it.
  • Store separately in a soft pouch; a soft, dry cloth restores its glow. Long-term wear is the best polish — natural skin oils deepen its lustre.
  • Cleansing: rest it overnight on a Clear Quartz cluster — the simplest daily reset — or leave it in moonlight around the full moon. Skip water-based methods for this stone. Read our full cleansing guide.
  • Avoid salt water — some shops recommend it as a cleansing method, but salt can permanently dull or damage the surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is amber good for?
Traditionally: warmth, comfort and calm — a soothing, protective companion with millions of years of history in the hand.

What's the difference between amber and beeswax amber?
Transparency: amber is clear golden resin; beeswax amber (蜜蠟) is opaque with a milky, honey-wax lustre. Both are fossilized tree resin.

Does amber get better with wear?
Traditionally, yes — natural skin oils gradually deepen its glow and lustre, which is why long-worn amber looks richer than new.
