月光充電:跟著月亮週期照顧你的水晶

Moonlight Charging: Caring for Your Crystals with the Lunar Cycle

Have you ever placed your crystals on a windowsill on the night of a full moon? In the world of crystal practice, the full moon ritual is one of the most beloved monthly practices — once a month, you hand your crystals over to the moonlight, and give yourself a quiet evening in the process.

This guide shows you how to care for your crystals through the lunar cycle: what to do on the full moon, what to do on the new moon, and a simple monthly routine.

What Is the Lunar Cycle?

The Moon orbits Earth roughly every 29.5 days, from new moon to full moon and back again — one complete lunar cycle. For your crystal practice, you only need to remember two moments:

  • New moon: when the Moon is invisible — a symbol of new beginnings
  • Full moon: when the Moon is at its roundest and brightest (around the 15th day of the lunar calendar) — a symbol of fullness

No need to memorise the quarter phases. These two are all you need.

Why the Full Moon?

According to energy theory, moonlight is at its strongest on the full moon, making it the best moment to cleanse and charge your crystals. It is believed to gently wash away the energy crystals have absorbed, then refill them — like letting your crystals sleep well and wake up refreshed.

Unlike sunlight, moonlight won't fade your crystals. Stones that dislike strong sun, such as Amethyst, can be trusted to the moonlight without worry.

Full Moon Night: The Steps

Steps:

  1. Pick a night: any night within a couple of days of the full moon works — it doesn't have to be the exact date
  2. Prepare your crystals: take out the ones you want to cleanse — you can add a bowl of clean water if you like, but keep water-sensitive stones dry: Pyrite, Selenite, Malachite, Fluorite, Larimar, Pearl, Coral and Moonstone
  3. Place them: somewhere the moonlight reaches — a windowsill or balcony both work
  4. Bring them in: collect them the next morning, dry them off and put them away

That's it. While they're out, spend a minute quietly looking at your crystals in the moonlight and settling into the stillness — that is a mindfulness practice in itself.

The New Moon: A Time for Intentions

If the full moon is about "recharging", the new moon is about "setting out". Many practitioners believe the new moon's symbolism of fresh starts makes it an ideal time to set intentions.

Remember the five steps from our guide to setting intentions? Doing them on the night of a new moon adds something special:

  • New moon: set your intention — plant your intention into your crystal
  • Full moon: cleanse and recharge — hand your crystal to the moonlight

One lunar cycle, one complete practice: set out at the month's start, recharge mid-month. Your intention and your crystals, travelling with the Moon.

Your Monthly Crystal Calendar

Here is everything above as a simple routine — stick it on your wall if you like:

  • New moon: set intentions — the five steps from our intention-setting guide
  • Daily: clear quartz cluster — rest your crystals on it each night before bed, the simplest daily care
  • Around the full moon: moonlight cleanse and charge — give them one night under the moonlight
  • Monthly: Herkimer Diamond water — a deeper cleanse

You don't have to do it all at once. Start with the full moon, and add the rest as it becomes habit.

FAQ

What if it's cloudy and I can't see the Moon?

According to energy theory, moonlight isn't blocked by clouds — the Moon is still there behind them. Place your crystals by the window; you don't need to see the Moon itself.

What if my home gets no direct moonlight?

Place them as close to a window as possible. If you truly have no window to use, switch to a clear quartz cluster or Herkimer Diamond water instead — there's more than one way, so don't overthink it.

Can moonlight fade my crystals?

No. Fading comes from the UV in sunlight (Amethyst pales with prolonged sun exposure) — moonlight doesn't have this problem.

Does it have to be the exact full moon night?

No. The moonlight is strong enough two or three days either side of the full moon. Pick an evening that suits you, and keep it easy.

What's the difference between moonlight and a clear quartz cluster?

A clear quartz cluster is a daily tool — handy, but you need to own one; moonlight is free, once a month. The former is like brushing your teeth daily, the latter like a monthly deep clean — doing both is best, but either one alone is perfectly fine.
