Spinel
What Is Spinel?
Spinel is a magnesium aluminium oxide gemstone that grows in vivid reds, pinks, blues and black — for centuries, famous "rubies" in royal crown jewels turned out to be spinel all along. Brilliant, hard-wearing and full of fire, it is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Our current pieces include blue and black spinel necklaces.
Spinel Colors
- Blue spinel — calm, vivid depth.
- Black spinel — sleek and grounding.
What Is Spinel Good For?
In traditional belief, spinel is a stone of revitalizing energy — associated with renewal, fresh inspiration and the spark to begin again. Black spinel is traditionally kept as a grounding, protective stone for steady boundaries.
How to Use Spinel
- Wear it as a necklace — both our current pieces are necklaces, made to sit close.
Care & Cleansing
- Spinel is hard (Mohs 8) and easy to care for; wipe clean and avoid harsh chemicals.
- Cleansing: rest it overnight on a Clear Quartz cluster — the simplest daily reset. For a deeper cleanse, try our Herkimer Diamond water method: soak a Herkimer Diamond in water for a few hours, then rest your crystal in the water for 10–30 minutes. Moonlight around the full moon is a good tool-free alternative. Read our full cleansing guide.
- Avoid salt water — some shops recommend it as a cleansing method, but salt can permanently dull or damage the surface.
